A PSMS costs more than the standard SMS because it gives consumers so much more. You can send ringtones, wallpapers, horiscopes animations and sports news to mobile users. If you are offering a service for a fee, PSMS is the right tool. Charges are applied by the carrier and billed directly to the customer's account. PSMS is a huge growth area with more large leaps in uptake expected in 2006.

PSMS can be charged in two areas: Mobile Terminating (MT), is when the consumer receives the SMS; or Mobile Originating (MO), when the consumer sends an SMS requesting information or content. At the moment users are charged 55c including GST to participate.
